People who care about your hair as much as you do.
Liberty & Frank is built around a genuine belief in consultation first, education always, and a relationship with your hair that actually lasts.
Sophie Vamvakitis
Owner & Director"Sophie opened Liberty and Frank with the vision of creating beautiful, healthy hair."
Sophie founded Liberty & Frank in late 2016, driven by a simple conviction: that a great hair salon could be built around craft and conscience rather than discounts and pressure. She opened on Auburn Road in Hawthorn's heritage village strip — a real shopfront with a real door, deliberately chosen over a mall space.
Her focus has always been on colour that works with hair's biology rather than against it. The products in the salon (Olaplex, Lakmé) reflect that — chosen for what they do to hair health over time, not just the result on the day. Annual education for the whole team is non-negotiable: what's true in colour science in 2026 wasn't always true in 2016, and it matters to keep up.
The name of the salon — Liberty & Frank — reflects an approach as much as an identity. Liberty in the creative conversation; frankness in the consultation. Her aim, put plainly: that every client leaves knowing exactly what happened to their hair, and why it looks the way it does.
In the salon.
The team is small by design — the kind of salon where your name and your hair history are remembered visit to visit.
